The Genuines

STRUGGLE (1986)

A lightning-speed inventory of protest and defiance is mashed with theatrical satire and cut against biting realism to create an inspired piece of art of great cultural significance. The Genuines’ “Struggle” video is the work of filmmakers Joëlle Chesselet and Craig Matthew of Doxa Productions.

REISSUE PROJECT

While Profoundly South African works closely with Mac McKenzie and Hilton Schilder on current projects, we’re also interested in documenting their recorded legacy. Drawing on research and interviews already conducted with the group, we’d like to curate and annotate a CD anthology from the Genuines catalogue and would welcome the participation of funders, sponsors and partners.

The Genuines’ Shifty albums are only available in digital form and can be found on Bandcamp. Chasing the Voodoo is available on original-press vinyl (for £1.99!) at Action Records. Nights with the Cape Gypsies is available on CD at Kalahari.
